I guess as of late, it would be the public’s reaction to Osama’s death. I don’t think I need to be all that politically saavy to have the right to feel a bit disturbed by the people who are basically getting off to the news.
When I heard he died, I was eating a chicken wrap from McDonalds. I cracked a joke about how he finally lost his game of hide and seek. I felt like he had been dead for years now because all he had been was a punchline for every other joke about not being able to find something. And then I grasped the magnitude of what his death means. It means closure for the 9/11 families and the US. It also may mean repercussions.
I agree that he was a horrible person. I’m not condoning anything he did. But there’s just something so barbaric in rejoicing over death. I understand feeling relief, but to naturally feel elation is kind of bizarre.
I don’t know how to explain it without sounding like a dick to 3/4 of the population, so I suppose I’m done here.
